Located in the former South High School Building, the John Legend Theater project encompassed the renovation and preservation of the auditorium with a 1920’s style. It was a $2.3 million project funded by the John Legend Foundation and the Springfield City School District. The theater is approximately 18,862 sqft and seats approximately 700 guests. The scope included a complete renovation of the auditorium, stage, backstage, lobby, and entrance. The previously sealed balcony will be reopened for use in 2017. The backstage area consists of dressing rooms, an ADA accessible dressing room, and practice area. State of the art sound, lighting, and acoustics were incorporated.
As Criteria Architect, Craig E. Dillon, AIA Architects was responsible for designing and providing the conceptual drawings and criteria for the project.
